basil and the vicious bear clan
definitely the weirdest, wackiest, most bizarre thing I’ve ever done. i do feel like it’s still very ‘me’ though. i mean, i draw and paint a lot of my failure in relationship, and this one here is not any different. i started with the idea in april 2011, it was inspired by a boy (the same boy from the Thursday series actually, I’m a bit ashamed to admit that) i had a major crush on and he didn’t feel the same way about me.
the story itself is actually a lot longer than what i could illustrate here. it started with the kidnapping, and then followed by basil infiltrating the black poodle monastery. it was really long, and a lot wackier than what it was in the zine. i just didn’t have enough patience, i really just wanted to start drawing the ending. i re-read it and i think for a lot of people the story doesn’t make sense; it starts with a preview of the previous chapter, and ends with a confusing possible sequel. well, it is just wacky.
a friend of mine said that there’s some sort of ‘teenage angst’ in my stories. and i think he was right. i guess at the end of it ‘basil and the vicious bear clan’ is my story in a wacky alternate universe, but i hope you get the idea. it’s about dealing with rejection, self doubt, jealousy, disappointment and anger. it’s wacky, bizarre, a bit absurd i guess, but it will always mean something for me (not only because it was sold out).
i hope you like it. and message me if you don’t get the story, I’ll be happy to explain it to you.
